Understanding Fuel: Fuel Management Zones Fact Sheet
Friday, 20th December 2024
The third in the Hotspots Fire Project’s Understanding Fuel fact sheet series for landholders is now available. Following previous fact sheets that covered fuel accumulation and fire behaviour, this next resource explores the five types of fuel management zones that support both local property objectives and regional hazard reduction efforts.
As the climate becomes warmer and drier across Australia, understanding fuel is essential to managing bush fire risk to life, property and natural ecosystems.
Understanding Fuel… and fuel management zones outlines how fuel is managed depending on its distance from a home or property. Fuel management zones outlined include Asset Protection Zones (APZ), Land Management Zones (LMZ), Ignition Management Zones (IMZ), Strategic Fire Advantage Zones (SFAZ), and Fire Exclusion Zones (FEZ).
